Just a normal summer

I finally got some hours in this weekend at work. I worked Saturday night and ended up working in the screened in porch area. Saturday was super busy which is awesome money wise but I ran my butt off that night. I had probably ten tables at a time with no help. I sprinted, I sweat, and I made the money that I needed. I was so overwhelmed that I wanted to just stop and scream. When it got later at night I could barely even walk around on the Wharf because it was sooo packed. It was like being downtown at a busy bar on a Saturday night and not being able to move. Thankfully I was done really early so I didn't have to deal with it. The entire weekend really paid off and I am finally not negative money :)
Lately I have really been realizing how great my friends are. I think that I am really lucky to be surrounded by great people in different areas of my life. I love that I have the friends that have known me for years and know me inside and out along with work friends to vent with after work and school friends that I can swap teaching stories with. I really do think that I am a very lucky person :)
Time to head to bed and await a phone call from Zack at 2 AM :)
Goodnight!

Broke as a Joke...

So it is the middle of June and I am the most broke that I have ever been. It has been really crappy weather lately and that means that I don't make any money. I literally can't even go grocery shopping. This new job was supposed to HELP my finances but instead I am drowning in bills..... If only the sun would come out!
Last Saturday was probably the weirdest serving shift of my life. It was pouring rain all day but I was scheduled to work inside at the bar area at night. So I get there and it is dead. The next girl came at 5 and she did not get a table for probably an hour. We literally stood around and did nothing. There was no dinner rush or anything. There was one creepy man that kept making me get him a beer as he stood right next to the bar so I made about $3 off of him. Then later on there was a DJ who came in. This did not help bring people in. There were very few people there the entire night.
I finally got cut at 11:15 at night and so did security. I was about to leave and do my check out when a girl fight broke out between four rich married women. They were calling each other names and yelling. I ran and got security and eventually the lady that started the fight left with her husband while another lady stood by the bar balling. The DJ started playing inappropriate songs with inappropriate music videos. This is when I was out of there. I learned later that two of the ladies who were involved in the fight started making out and the DJ played a super dirty music video as well. Quite the Saturday night. I took my $40 and headed out of there.
This summer job is turning out to be not so great so far so hopefully when the weather turns beautiful and hot my income will also rise. I am not enjoying the life of being this poor!!!

On another note, Zack left for New Zealand yesterday afternoon. He is restoring habitats and working with village people. Then he is doing an adventure tour where he gets to snow board, bungy jump, and do a lot of crazy zack-like things. It's hard because we won't be able to talk for over a week because he is living with no electricity and we have never been apart this long. I just keep reminding myself that he is going to have the experience of a life time and then he will be back in a month. I miss him so much of course but know he will love being there :)

More later!!

Life on the Lake

Summer is here and that means that my new job has started as well. I was broke for about 2 weeks from not working but now finally have an income. The job I have is unlike any other that I have had. The people, atmosphere and job itself are all a new experience.

When I drive to work it feels like I am driving to a different world. It feels like I am up north on the lake at some summer hot spot. And in a way, I am. My last couple shifts I have gotten there at noon and have left around 9 or 10 at night. As the evening comes to an end, the sun sets over the lake and people head out on their boats to go home. It almost feels surreal since I have not grown up in this type of environment.

It always makes my day when my tables say to me, "you are from around here, are you?" Duh. The giveaway could be that I don't sport designer sunglasses like the other girls. In fact, I don't wear any sunglasses since I broke my $5 pair from last summer. It could also be that I don't know any roads out in that area and have no clue how much it is to rent a boat on the lake.
The people that come out are one of a kind as well. Some break the stereo type but the majority of the people are exactly the way that I thought they would be. Little girls with coach shoes on, forty-year olds acting as if they were 21, and twenty-somethings blowing $150 on jag bombs and not even flinching when the bill comes. It's just how they grew up and I understand that, it is just not something that I am used to.
Many of the people who work with me also grew up in the area and have boats and huge houses and their parents money for when they are in a pinch. It is no big deal to them. Apparently Tuesdays or Wednesdays the crew heads out on their boats to chill together and enjoy the lake. I don't dare tell them that I have never been on a large boat and actually do not even know how to swim.
The different lifestyle is apparent and that is fine, but it's when people think that they are better than everyone else that gets to me. Most of the people I encounter are very nice and very generous but I have had a few run-ins with the worst.
One lady was at a table and everyone was ordering. She told me that her two kids would be coming in a few minutes and asked about the kids menu. I explain the three choices of a cheeseburger, corn dog or chicken strips. She ordered a cheeseburger and decided that the other child would not like any of the choices so she didn't order anything for him. Alright, cool. She wanted a coke and sprite for them. Ok cool again. I put in the order and when it came out I grabbed the two kids drinks. When I got over there, one kid was about 12 and the other was about 8. She was HORRIFIED that I have brought over kids drinks and demanded I grab new ones. Sorry but the kids were not there when I took the order. Whatever. I grabbed new drinks and when i got back, she was HORRIFIED again that her son had gotten the kids cheeseburger. She basically shoved it at me and demanded a regular size cheeseburger because this was unacceptable. I got him a new one and luckily the husband paid and tipped generously. It's no big deal and I will gladly fix something that is wrong but honestly, it is not the end of the world that your sons cheeseburger is a little bit smaller. I think he'll make it.
More stories to come.....

Last Day of Practicum!!

Today is my final day with my fifth graders. It was a great experience and I learned so much but am ready for the next step! Here are some things that I learned during my experience:
*I really like fifth grade WAY more than I thought I would
*Kids date in fifth grade (really?!?)
*You have to be REALLY flexible. Kids have so many different experiences and then are all thrown into one class. How do you relate something to every single one of them?!
*The students will still like you even after you have to discipline them.
*You learn A LOT by spending even one day out at recess with the kids
*Lesson planning has to be flexible. You may have a GREAT idea and find out that it really doesn't help them at all.
*FUN needs to be incorporated into lessons more
*Listening to students, even if it's just about how they watched a movie last night, makes a difference to them
*Some kids you will just never be able to reach.
*Teaching is SO MUCH FUN!

Besides having my last day with that today, my last day at my serving job was last Sunday (Mother's Day). It was hectic and busy and a great day to end on. I am going to miss a lot of the people but will not miss the job itself. It was getting a little ridiculous. Last night we had a going away party for me and about 5 other employees who are done working there. It was great seeing so many people outside of work! I headed home a little earlier than others though because I had to be here at school by 9. My new job starts Thursday and I am excited to see how that goes!
I am also moving and will start slowly moving stuff this Friday. Taryn is already moved in basically so I am going to start to transition over there. She is amazing at decorating and art so the house already looks really good! I can't wait for that adventure to start either :)
My dad's birthday is Friday. Our family is going to the Star Trek movie together for it but not on his actual birthday. I'm excited to have an outing with the whole family :)

Busy...

Wow! I have been so busy that I have not written in over a month....
Here is a little update on my life!
Right now I am helping teach fifth grade. I love it! I thought that maybe fifth grade was a little too old for me but I absolutely love it. I spend every week day here from about 8:30-4:00. I don't work at GC during the week since I am usually wiped out from being at school all day. It's a lot of work but I usually get it all done while I'm at school. It's nice to have my evenings open and to do things that I really enjoy. My class is so great- 17 fifth graders that are all VERY different. I have learned so much so far and can't wait to student teach. I am actually done at this school May 13th so I do not have much time left here :(
I also bought a new car the day before Easter. It's an '08 Kia Spectra and only had 8,900 miles on it when I bought it. It's a darker blue and sparkles! I love it :) Unfortunately I am pretty broke from buying it. I did sell my old Corolla to a guy at work. I'm sad but over it because of my great new car!
I got the job at a new restaurant this summer so I am SUPER excited for a summer of fun and money making! I get to work outside EVERY day and I also get to wear shorts and a T-shirt. My friend told me that it's super laid back and that the people that go there love to tip! I think it will be a great experience, plus I need a break from my other job. My last day is this Monday. I'll miss the people but I know that I will still see them.
I am living with my two friends next year and we got a GREAT deal for our rent. I can't wait to move in and start decorating and getting things situated. I will miss my current roomies tho :( We have been through a lot the last two years and have become very close. I know that they will be coming over to my new house though and we will still talk a lot.
There are so many changes taking place in my life right now. They are very exciting but also overwhelming. I think this summer will be a huge stepping stone in my life and will really be a learning experience. I can't wait for what's ahead!!

sleepy :)

What has happened since my last post:
*Spring Break (worked a lot!)
*finished most of my classes
*Applied for a summer job
*Applied to bartend at GC (interview's tomorrow!)
*1 year date with Zack! (tomorrow's the actual anniversary)
*Got my tax return (time to start car-hunting)
*Bought my cousin Katie a birthday present (heading to Iowa on Saturday :))
*Been house hunting (probably living with two of my best friends in a pretty cheaply priced house... possibly.)
*Celebrated Kelley's 22nd in Rochester

A LOT has been going on in my life which explains why I haven't posted in a while... I will try to post about the things listed above just to let you know more in depth what has been going on in my life! As for now though..... I am heading to bed. I have my practicum meeting tomorrow where I find out what grade level I get and what teacher I am paired up with. I also have my bartending interview and a little dinner day with my one and only :)

PS tonight I watched a movie with my roomies and had a really good time! I am going to miss them when we move out end of May :(

Goodnight friends!!

It's been a while!

Wow I just realized that I have not been on here in a very long time! I have been super busy with school and work. Right now it is actually SPRING BREAK which is awesome! Unfortunately it is not much of a break since I will be working on portfolios and final projects for most of the week. I'm actually at Caribou right now working on lesson plans for my teaching movement class. Teaching art ended last week (yay!) and movement and music both end next week (YAY!). Then I have a couple more weeks of literacy, effective elementary, social studies, and science and then I am DONE with classes at Conccordia!!!! I can not WAIT to be done sitting in a classroom all day. I understand that we need to take these methods courses but it is just getting so old. I write so many lesson plans and plan so many units that I am ripping my hair out. I want to implement my ideas in a classroom to see what works and what doesn't. I am ready to move on.
Thankfully, I will be in a 4th, 5th, or 6th grade classroom for a month, starting right after Easter Break in April. I am so excited but also SO nervous. I want to do a great job but I know that there are going be a lot of challenges and I am going to make some mistakes. That is all part of it though. It is better to make mistakes and try things now rather than when I have my own class. It is also going to be a lot of work. I got an e-mail last week with the practicum handbook and we are required to do a lot. We have to plan 3-4 lessons a week plus do reflections and we have to be critiqued. I am nervous that my class won't listen to me or respect me. I am also worried that the lesson plans that I have worked so hard on will fail. My biggest fear is failure but that can't keep me from trying. I need to work through it, stay positive, and use all the great information that I have received so far in school.
I also applied to bar tend at my work. I basically applied because it would be nice to be able to do something more at work than just serve. If I bartend as well, I can pick up shifts in two different areas and have more bases covered. Also, if I get a new job or something, having both serving and bartending will help me out. I want to know liquor more as well, especially wine. I am interviewing for it next week and so is Zack which will be interesting but I will keep you posted!
As for this week, I am in an AWESOME mood. I love having this time to get things done. I am going to get a good chunk of projects done and just get my life organized. Zack and I are also celebrating our 1 year anniversary this weekend and I cannot wait for that!!! We are going out to dinner, then to a Timberwolves game on Saturday night followed by Brunch the next morning. I love spending time with him! Even if things don't go perfect, I know we will have fun and have great memories of it!
I am also getting closer to buying a car! I am waiting for one more tax return to come through and then I am going to keep saving a little more. I want a decent Corolla and I want to get it by my cousins birthday or else a little after that. I just feel like there are so many exciting and fun things coming up. PLUS it's almost spring :)
Back to homework!!!
More later everyone :)

Idea of fun changing?

Last night, I went to Axel's with my roommate Nikki to get some food and chat. It didn't quite start out that way though. First, it took some convincing. She finally agreed to go to Green Mill with me. So we get there, sit down, and no one greets us for about 10 minutes. I'm already mad. Then she comes and I ask her some questions about the menu and she doesn't know but says she will check then come back. Alright cool. I can deal with that. Well, another 10 minutes go by and she never comes back. Pissed. Nikki and I get up and leave. This is not the first time this has happened at Green Mill. It was just hard for me because I am a server and service like that just is not acceptable. Plus I got a prickle ball in my stomach (don't ask) and needed food asap!
So we headed to Axel's. Again, took forever for service. We did eventually get our food though and then were happy. I had a ton of fun just chatting with Nikki and catching up with her. I would prefer to do that over going out to a bar and drinking any day/night. I love just hanging out and being mellow sometimes and I am finding more and more that I would rather do that. Maybe I am just getting over the whole crazy partying scene. I don't like wasting my money on $5 drinks and getting home late and feeling worthless the next day. To me it's not worth it. I want to spend quality time with my friends not just crazy times. I really appreciate the people in my life and love talking with them. Maybe it's me just growing up.
Spring break is coming up in a little over a week and I am in dire need of it! I can't wait to work a lot and catch up on homework and projects. I also applied to bartend at work, but now I am not sure if I can because my practicum school has school till 3:40 and I would have to work at 4... If they do offer me the position I am going to have to let them know that I won't be able to be at work till 4:15 or 4:30... Hopefully everything works out though!
That's all for today everyone :)

Getting things together!!

I have been so busy lately that I haven't found any time to write! Fortunately I am doing homework right now so of course I have a little time :)
The semester is almost half over and that means that some of my classes are finishing up. I have to do 10 lesson plans for teaching art, 5 for teaching movement, and study for finals in a few classes. I am overwhelmed right now but when these few are over I am going to be SO relieved!!
Work is busy as normal. I worked all weekend again and made some good money. I closed Friday night, closed in the bar Saturday (got done at about 1:30 AM) and then worked Sunday at 9:45. I made a good amount Sunday and got out of closing so that I could go out to see my mom for her 50th birthday. It was fun and small and nice to relax. I also went shopping this morning with her to celebrate.
At work they are moving up one or two people to be bartenders. I want to apply but don't know if it will work out. I think that it would help me because if I bartend there, I can always go somewhere else and have both bartending and serving experience. I don't really want to compete with Zack for the position though and I know that he also would like to bartend. I'll have to see. I will be SUPER busy with practicum and all that so who knows!
Zack and my one year is coming up too so I can't wait for that! We are trying to go to a Timber wolves game and have a whole date night so I am very excited!! I love date nights and just relaxing with him. I always have a great time with Zack and that is one of the many reasons why I love him :)

Things to work on this week:
-End of semester projects
-Teaching literacy lesson plan
-Picking up a shift at work?
-Saving money
-Looking for a car!!!

PS... I have been at Caribou for an hour and gotten absolutely NOTHING done yet. Normal.

Bye for now!

yep.

Tired. Homework. Sick of school. Ready for a break. Messy room. Busy day. Sleepy. Overwhelmed.
That sums it up.

Beginning of another long week!

The weekend has come and gone and I am now part way into my school week. The weekend was very good and very profitable!
Friday night I worked till late. There were a lot of groups of people and not so many couples. When Saturday rolled around though, almost every table was a two-top. My mom and dad came in and saw me which was awesome. My brother and his girlfriend also came in and saw me. I love seeing my family at work since I don't go out to Woodbury very much anymore.
The good thing about Valentine's Day is that most people are in a good mood. Also, people are willing to spend a little more money than normal. The key is to keep the lady happy. If she's happy, the guy tips you well. Also make sure the lady feels special!
After work, some people from work were going out to a bar nearby and although I did not really want to go, I went along anyway. It's kind of a trashy bar with a slightly older crowd and creepy men but I stuck by my restaurant friends. About half hour in, I went outside to see Zack after he showed up. When I tried to go back inside, a fight had broke out between two girls and they were getting dragged out of the bar! I tried to get by and get back in but the bouncer's were too busy dealing with the "situation" so i just left. Apparently some guy left and ran his car into a stop sign or something so I was VERY glad I got out of there.
Also earlier on on Saturday, Zack and I spent the day together. We got some lunch and went to Har Mar mall to go to the pet store and some other stores just for the heck of it. When I spend time with him it's always fun, even if it's just walking around a mall and enjoying each others company :)
Sunday I worked all day (brunch) then got dressed up for dinner with Zack. We went to Kincaid's in St. Paul and had a WONDERFUL dinner. It was a perfect Valentine's Day. Then we went home and did homework haha.
I had a perfect weekend seeing my family, working, and spending time with Zack. I couldn't have asked for anything more!
Yesterday i did pick up work for a couple hours but it was soooo slllooowwww. Then I got some food and went to Caribou with Zack to work on the TONS of homework that I have due this week. It should be a busy one (as usual) but it's nice to be back into the swing of the school week.
Things I am excited about that are coming up:
*Spring Break (making some extra money)
*Finding an apartment for next year
*Seeing my relatives next weekend for my mom's 50th birthday
*Easter Break (I will be placed in a classroom for my practicum after break!!)

Have a great day everyone :)

Caribou Ponderings

So I'm at Caribou; another typical Friday! I'm trying to get a lot of homework done by my mind keeps wandering. I am actually thinking about Valentine's Day right now. I think everyone should have a Valentine, even if they don't like Valentine's Day or just don't celebrate it or anything. Everyone should know that they are loved! I hope all my friends know that they are important to me and that it doesn't matter if they have a guy getting them flowers or someone special to go out to dinner with. Loving yourself comes first! it took me a long time to realize that you need to love yourself first and I am actually very happy with myself now. Valentine's Day should be a day to celebrate how great the people are in your life! Without my friends and family, I would not be where I am today. So just know that each and every one of you are loved!
I am excited to celebrate with Zack this year. The last couple years I haven't celebrated really which is fine, this year will just be different. We are going to Kincaid's for dinner on Sunday so that we can both work Saturday night and make a little money :) My parents are coming into see me so I am very excited about that!
Right now at Caribou, there is also a homeless man sitting across from me. He came in with a suitcase and a face mask on to keep him warm. He is VERY skinny and just looks content to be sitting here in a warm place. In one of my classes at school we are talking about homelessness and I also just read "The Glass Castle" which is a very good book. I feel like I understand homelessness more now and am more aware that not everyone has a warm place to sleep at night. He just gave up his seat to a mother and her son and moved somewhere else. I realize how blessed I am and how I should reach out to others more. I want to get more involved in volunteer work and putting myself out there. I hope that when I graduate I will be able to spend more time doing that.
Alright time to get back to homework before another busy weekend at the restaurant...
Happy Valentine's Day everyone! And remember... YOU ARE LOVED!!

Snowboarding

Yesterday I spent the whole day with zack. We went snowboarding at Afton at about 1 and were there till about 4. I'm sure he would have preferred to be that a lot longer... but I am not quite as good as him ;) I like snowboarding but I just get frustrated every time I go! I can make it down the hill (most the time) but he wants me to use my edges and get really good. I like it but don't LOVE it like him. It was fun spending time together though :)
We went to Olive Garden for dinner then stopped at my parents to give my dad some tax info. Then we went shopping, got ice cream, and did homework. It was a very fun way to spend my day!
But now it's back to reality. Three classes today and a test tomorrow. No good. Then working all weekend. Hopefully I will make some money on Valentine's Day :)
More later :)

Girls night!

Very busy brunch shift yesterday. It was nuts! I sold about $1200 in sales which turned out to be a good amount of tips for me! I was thinking about trying to work tonight, but Tuesdays are my busy days so I have to get a TON of hw done tonight....
Valentine's Day is coming up and I am working of course! So is Zack which is nice. We are going to celebrate Sunday night. Someone asked me yesterday what I was getting him for v-day... whoops! Better get on that pretty quick...

Last night after work, my roomies and I met up and went to see "He's Just Not That Into You." I heard mixed reviews from people who came into GC after the movie the last couple days, but I really liked it! My roomies and I had a great time laughing an trying to decide who was what character. We thought of a couple and decided one particular guy we knew definitely played the part of the "filler". Afterwards we hit up Old Chilcago for some appetizers and some time to chat. It was really nice catching up with all them, especially since we are all really busy with school and work right now.
I am in a great mood today despite the fact that I know this is the beginning of a very busy week! I feel more motivated than usual though and I am not sure why. But I'm gonna go with it :)
Time to review some children's books and study for a phonics test.
Maybe MOA to find a little V-day gift after? Who knows!
Have a great day everyone :)

Saturday... my mid-work week

Weekends don't count as weekends for me. Weekends mean I work every day and basically can't do anything else. Here I am on Saturday, at Caribou (of course) getting some hw done before heading to work for the rest of the night. Just typical!
Last night was busy for the restaurant and table turn was very fast which means more money for me :) The new movie is out, "He's Just Not that Into You", so it was girls night out central. I am actually going to see that movie with my roomies Sunday so I can understand why everyone was out with their friends last night.
When you go out to eat, you probably don't realize that the server observes more about you than you know. I hear conversations all the time that I'm sure people don't know that I can hear. There was a lady at the bar last night who was dropping the F bomb every other word and complaining about her best friend. Well her best friend showed up and they had to step outside because things were getting a little loud... I now know how the two met, how long they had been friends, and everything the friend had done to screw over the other one. I feel like I've known them for years!
It's nice when it slows down a little bit and you can actually talk to your tables. Then you get to know them and actually have a real conversation. When it's busy, you make the quick small talk and act like you aren't that busy when really as they talk to you, you are going over the 5 other things you need to do the second you step away from the table.
All in all, it was a good night and I made some money. I got out of there a little after one and then got some sleep before today started... which will be a repeat of yesterday :)
Hopefully it will be a busy, steady night and I will make the money I need to to pay off my bills, save for a car, and put away some for my vacation in November.
Happy Saturday everyone:)

Vegas Vacation

Kelley, sleeping in the airport because we were delayed for so long!^
At The Bank on our last night in Vegas ^
Out to dinner before Zummanity!! ^
Just a huge billboard and sign in Veags. Everything was huge there!^
Our first night, at Tao, a club that we stumbled across ^
At the Aquarium, just touching fish! ^
Finally in Las Vegas after being stuck in LA for a night... ^

I went to Vegas over Winter break with a few of my friends. It was my first time there and was really exciting! We did run into a few problems though which made a real adventure for us...
First, we left on a Wednesday, right after I finished my last final for the semester. We boarded the plan, flew for a while, and then suddenly we were stuck flying around Vegas for 45 minutes. Apparently there was a snow storm in Vegas and they did not have the equipment to clear the runway. Just our luck. We come from snow and end up not being able to land because of snow. Perfect!
SO they diverted us to Los Angeles for the night. Unfortunately, they made us find our own hotel because we were diverted because of snow which was beyond their control. Cool. We had our time share paid for in Vegas and a room just waiting for us to sleep in and instead we were stuck in LA in a ghetto hotel that we had to pay for. PLUS we didn't get any of our bags.
We stopped at a gas station (bad idea) on the way to our hotel and realized we PROBABLY shouldn't be walking around LA. We got to our hotel and the beds were tiny. Then we had to be up at 4 AM to get back to the airport. It was almost midnight by now.
At 4 AM the alarm goes off and no one moves. I finally get everyone going and we scurry off to the airport half asleep and in the same clothes as the day before.
We finally make it to Vegas and take a nap. A MUCH needed one at that. Then we got to go explore:)
We definitely hit up a buffet right away which was amazing! It was at the Billagio which was a beautiful hotel. We also went to an aquarium and checked out some shopping. There was so much to do in Vegas and so many places to check out.
We went to a club that night and it was a lot different than clubs and bars here. It was like a circus of girls in barely-there clothes and there was a Santa Claus and Oompa Loompa that you could get your picture taken with. After a while hanging out there, we headed back to the time share to go to sleep.
The next day we decided that we wanted to go see a show. We finally chose Zummanity after much debate. We got dressed up and went to dinner and then went to the show. The show was amazing! It had people doing crazy things and was VERY entertaining. Most of the women were topless as well which I wasn't expecting!
After the show we headed to a club in the Billagio called The Bank. They were giving away some expensive ring plus a guy offered us VIP if we came. We took advantage of that and ended up in a girls-only free bottle service section. Perfect! We met some girls from California that were cool and just had fun the whole night. It was nice to not have creepers around....
The next day we went to another Buffet and heard that our flight was delayed so we took our time. WELL... we called the airport and they said it wasnt delayed and that we had to be there in 30 minutes or not come at all. We all took off sprinting, looking for a taxi. We finally found one, threw our stuff in our bags, and waited for a ride to the airport. We were all freaking out that we wouldn't make our flight.
We got to the airport and there was a LONG line to check in. So, I went to the front of the line and said, "Excuse me everyone, would it be ok if my friends and I go to the front of the line because if we don't check in in 2 minutes we can't get on our flight." I was almost crying. Then I hear Britt say something from over by the electronic check in: "Laur, our flights delayed we're fine." Cool. I look like an idiot now.
So I go back to the end and wait.
We were stuck in the airport all day because there was a snow storm in MN. Just our luck again!! So we waited and waited and then their were maintenance problems with the plane. Awesome.
We finally landed around midnight in MN and I had to work at 9 AM. It was quite the experience. With all the delays and diversions we ended up with about 2 days in Vegas. Next time we will stay longer and go when there isn't a chance of a snow storm stopping us!

The Ed. Program

Our ed. program is hilarious. Honestly I ask myself sometimes if this is real. I'm with the same people for all my classes with a few randoms here and there in some classes.

We have this Teaching Science prof who is just nuts! She's a nice lady but she is just so goofy :) I find myself laughing a lot in that class. Today actually she had a great quote. We have class in the biology room so there are mannequins that show the human body and the muscles and bones and all that. So she points to one in the back of the room:
"See the boobs back there are round. Just recognize the shapes, you know." We all immediately froze and burst out laughing. I could not believe it! We also ventured outside last week to check out bunny poop and urine. So normal!
The people in my classes are great too... we have the cat lover who will not stop volunteering for every activity and thinks EVERYTHING is funny. We also have the middle aged lady who is constantly confused and worried she is missing something. We have the hyper crazy fun girl as well who ALWAYS has energy and keeps us moving. And finally we have the one guy that has to put up with having classes of all girls everyday...
Every day gets a little frustrating but after its over and I look back, it's really funny. In teaching music we had to dance to a Native American song and then make up chants for kids. In art tonight we practiced coloring by expressing ourselves and letting the lines run wild. Last week we painted the color wheel with water colors.
If I could bring a video camera to class, I would. I would love everyone to see what happens in these classes and the people that are in them!
Goodnight everyone :)

Birthday's are a lot of fun :)

So yesterday Courtney (my friend from work and fellow blond bombshell) celebrated her birthday at the Shout House down town. There was a great turn out of people, mostly from work. I have never been there on a Tuesday and it was a lot more mellow than it normally is on a Wednesday (80's night and cheap drinks) so it was definitely a different atmosphere!
It was fun seeing all the co workers out and about and also good to see my friend Mel B. that used to work with me but has moved onto bigger and better things! It was really good to catch up and talk and just relax after a very long day of classes yesterday....
Courtney got to drink free all night because it was her birthday and she definitely took advantage of that :) Zack and I didn't stay TOO late because we both had class early today and had things we had to get done.
I added some pics from the night! The first one is zack and me (duh), the next is the birthday girl taking a shot and the last are some of my work friends!

I should probably let you in on the bombshell thing too because I guarantee it will be brought back up again. So, Courtney, Cathy, Mel B. and I all used to work together and we formed this movie group that basically gets together once a week and sees a new movie and gets a bite to eat and some drinks before. That way we can catch up on all of our lives! Now Mel B. doesn't work with us and we are all super busy so it is a lot harder to keep in touch but we make it work when we can. We all are so different but all get along so well :) I love these girls!
Alright, I need to get back to homework before my night class tonight, but more later on my life! Definitely need to talk about my friend Amanda and my idea for a reality show about our teacher ed. classes.... I literally can't believe the things that happen sometimes!
More later everyone!

Just another Monday...

So here I am, sitting at Caribou with a smoothie (even though it feels about -11 out!) trying to get some homework done. Caribou is definitely my favorite place to go to read, relax, or do homework. When I'm here I can't do other things like clean, make food, watch TV, etc. I have to do homework. I even put my cell phone on silent sometimes when I'm here (gasp!).
I was going to try to go into work tonight and try to pick up a shift since I only work Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays right now. My night classes keep me from spending all my free nights at work like I did last semester. I honestly HATE not working. I would work every night if I could because when I'm not at work, I think about the money I am not making and the money I am actually losing. Being a server, the best shifts are at night so that's where I spend my nights and most of my weekends. I barely get sleep on the weekends actually and when Friday roles around it is not like the end of the week but instead the beginning of my work week. During the week I spend my free time doing homework because I know I won't get any done on the weekend. It's a never ending cycle!
I actually have a love-hate relationship with my job. I love the money and even most of the people I work with, but at the end of the night I am so drained from dealing with so many people that I just want to hole up and not talk to anyone. People can be very rude and hard to deal with as well which is draining. I can't say what I really think and instead have to put a smile on and let them have what they want and say what they want. Most the time I can just forget about it but other times it just changes my mood for the entire night. The one thing that makes everything better is spending time with the other servers after work, laughing and comparing stories. Then my night doesn't seem so bad.
Well back to homework for the rest of the night. I have to make a science lesson, write a paper on why daily physical education is important for elementary schools, do an article report dealing with social studies, and make up a chant for teaching music. Fun night!
Tomorrow night I am actually going out for my friend's bday from work. Should be fun and I should have some good stories from it! Good night everyone :)

Super Bowl Sunday

I am exhausted. I worked last night and then went to get a drink with a couple of girls from work. Well a drink turned into us watching karaoke which was HILARIOUS but we also lost track of the time. So I got barely any sleep and then worked all day today. I am usually tired Sundays so this is nothing new to me. I am also at my parents house right now and the super bowl just ended. It was a good game and I basically just relaxed and enjoyed the food that they made :) I am definitely ready to kill some homework then head off to bed.
Sorry not much exciting news right now with me! More later :)

First Post!

Hey everyone! This is my first post on this blog :) I am new at this but am excited!
Today I am just hanging out, waiting for my boyfriend Zack to come over and hang out before we work the rest of the night. Last night was my best friends birthday and it was a blast! My roomies Nikki and Kate came with and also all my best friends were there. We just went to one bar and stayed there but time really flew by. I feel like Britt's birthday is always fun. I love seeing everyone since most my friends do not go to school around here like I do.
I am really excited for this semester to be over (even though it just started) because in the fall I will be student teaching. I can't wait. I will be in a kindergarten classroom which will be a lot of fun but I am not sure if that is the age that I want to teach. It will be nice to not be stuck sitting in a classroom and reading text books and instead actually be interacting and learning from the kids. I'm sure it will be a great experience.
Meh I think that is enough for now. Have a great day everyone :)
